Why do I need my solar panels cleaned?
Solar panels work by converting the sunlight into electrical energy. The more sunlight the photovoltaic cells are exposed to, the greater their electrical output. Over time, pollutants such as bird/bat droppings, vehicular emissions, atmospheric dust and sea salt (to name a few), build up on the surface of the panels restricting the exposure of the cells to the sunlight. Furthermore, rain will not wash off these pollutants. In fact, it can leave dirt and grim on the panels. The best analogy to this is your car window screen, which left uncleaned (even after rain fall) will get dirty and harder to see through very quickly.
Why should I pay a professional to clean my panels?
There are numerous reasons why a professional should do the job. The following are some of the main ones:-
How much does it cost?
The cost varies depending on the amount of solar panels and access to them. Ring Mark for a quote.
How often do I need to have my panels cleaned?
The answer varies depending on how badly soiled the panels get. But it is recommended that the average panel should be cleaned every 6 months, for maximum efficiency.
Surely the rain will clean my panels?
The rain actually carries airborne dust and particles and when it lands on the surface of the panels and dries, it leaves these particles on the glass, forming over time, a layer of grim on the surface which blocks the sunlight getting to the cells.
What is deionised water?
Deionized water is water that has had all of its ions removed, by passing it through a filter.
Why do you use deionised water?
We use deionised water because it leaves a spot and streak free finish; which allows the panels to operate at maximum efficiency for a longer period of time because airborne dust particles will take longer to build up on the surface of the panel.
Do you use detergents/chemicals?
No, at Powerkleen we don't use detergents/chemicals to clean the panels; which means that we will not contaminate your water storage system and that the whole cleaning process is environmentally friendly. Even our water filters are bio degradable.
Do I need to be home when you are cleaning the panels?
No. All we need is access to your DC isolator switch (normally housed in your electrical meter cabinet), your AC isolator switch/s (normally next to your inverter) and an outdoor tap.
Are you insured?
Yes, Powerkleen is covered by a $10 million public liability insurance.
Are you qualified?
Yes, our staff have been trained in working at heights and workplace health and safety.
Do you carryout any other services?
Yes, as part of the package we do a visual inspection of your panels, panel mounts, soiling/shading, etc., and provide a written report. We can also clean solar hot water panels.
